Finances and cancer
Housing, Financial concerns, Bills, Transport, Accommodation, Income
Getting a cancer diagnosis and its treatment affect all areas of a person’s life. This may include being able to work, earning an income; where you live, the type of accommodation you live in, and benefits that you may be entitled to.
These can be complicated situations and you may want to get more information and advice from people experienced in these areas. For example, Financial Institutions, Financial Advisors, Accountants, Australian Taxation Office (ATO), Centrelink, Insurers, Tenancy Advice, Department of Housing, and Employers.
We've collected our favourite resources for you to read, watch, listen to, download and share to better understand and manage this concern, as well as clinical services if you would prefer to speak to someone about the emotional challenges of cancer treatment.
Practical and financial assistance
CANCER COUNCIL

Financial and Practical Support
BREAST CANCER NETWORK AUSTRALIA
We recommend this resource because...
Although this site has been designed for people with breast cancer the information on the site is useful for people of all diagnosis. It helps to explain the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme and GP Management Plans and how they could help. Also has a 5-minute video on how Australian women managed the expenses of breast cancer.
Social Workers
Social workers work primarily with the social and emotional aspects of cancer. Social Workers offer counselling and interventions including information and referrals (if required) to available community services that may help support navigation through the emotional, social and economic impacts of a cancer diagnosis.
